Day 8 (18/7/2017)
Group 1
Bernice Leung
Annie Suen
Pamela Tang
Beata Wong
Vanessa Yu
This morning, we had a Mathematical Logic lesson. We learned about the different applications of mathematics in our daily lives, especially in arts, using the Golden Rule. We were all mesmerized by the secret of these art works and paintings. We also learned about the classification methods of symmetry. This is an unforgettable experience for us as it provides a different way of learning math – to discover the truth and explanation of formulas instead of merely memorizing them. We have learnt how to think out of the box and to appreciate the Math in art. We realized how important it is for us to observe different styles of art and math in daily lives. Meanwhile, our professor has also taught us a logical way of solving problems using a diagram with several branches. This has offered us another way of compiling and revising our notes which is indeed useful for us in the future.
In the afternoon, we had a precious class of environmental science. We learned about several topics that are especially useful in our Global Solutions Project that we have to present later on. We learned about basic facts on climate and weather, which is applicable to our daily lives as well. We did a Greenhouse in a Jar Lab experiment by measuring the temperature change in beakers with carbon dioxide level higher and lower than in the atmosphere. We encountered some difficulties and the results were not very obvious, we learned to cooperate among ourselves by finding ways to solve them. It was a fun experience of having graphs and by observations, predicting the trends of climate change. We not only learned about environmental protection, but also presentation skills.
